Tube Compressor with 6 Selectable Attack/Recovery Knobs, SuperFast Recovery, and Custom-wound Transformers
Few compressors have shaped as many legendary recordings as the iconic iterations of the Altec 436. In a bid to bring that legend forward, Heritage Audio and LANG Electronics Inc. have teamed to unveil the P.Lane Type 436 tube compressor, a modern reboot of the Altec 436C that delivers vintage tube warmth and the unmistakable sonics of the 1960s British Invasion straight to your studio. From the Attack and Release knobs to dialing in Hold options and the matching tube specs, the LANG P.Lane Type 436 compressor aims to give you the same platform as the original. Heritage Audio has also added modern enhancements to streamline your workflow, including a SuperFast setting on the Recovery knob and custom-designed input and output transformers. It all equates to a unit that can not only be used effectively on pop and rock music, but also metal, hip-hop, alternative, and electronic music. Finally, a universal internal power supply ensures the LANG P.Lane Type 436 fits seamlessly into any studio setup — wherever you mix, it’s ready to make your audience twist and shout!
The Heritage Audio LANG P.Lane Type 436 is based on all versions of the Altec 436, from the original specs to the straightforward 436C and the "London" mod used to track all the top recording acts out of Liverpool in the 1960s. From matching the original tube lineup (NOS 6H5P, JJ E88CC, and 6AL5) to faithfully re-creating all six Hold knob settings from the classic London-modded 436, Heritage Audio and LANG have gone to great lengths to revive this 1960s studio essential. The Attack and Recovery knobs are also stepped with six selectable settings, giving you precise control over compression timing. But don’t mistake the Type 436 for a vintage-only tool — its bold character and punchy response make it just as powerful on modern pop, rock, metal, hip-hop, and electronic tracks, whether you're enhancing vocals or slamming drums with sidechain compression.
While the P.Lane Type 436 is rooted in the sonic legacy of the 1960s, Heritage Audio and LANG have equipped it with modern features designed to elevate the quality and efficiency of today’s studio workflows. The Release knob now includes a SuperFast (S.F.) setting, offering the ultra-quick release times essential for modern tracking. The unit also features XLR and TRS inputs and outputs, each paired with custom-built transformers from Heritage Audio. Combined with its universal internal power supply, the Type 436 is ready to drop into any rack with two free slots — just like we did at Sweetwater Studios, where our engineers have put it straight to work for both tracking and mixing.
